Sukhwinder Singh was born 18 July 1971 is an internationally acclaimed Indian playback singer who primarily sings Bollywood songs.

Sukhwinder Singh is famous internationally for singing “Jai Ho” from the film Slumdog Millionaire which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. His rendition of the track “Bismil” for the 2014 released film Haider fetched him the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer.

One of his most famous songs is “Chaiyya Chaiyya” for which he won the Best Male Playback Award at the 1999 Filmfare Awards. The song, from Mani Ratnam’s 1998 film Dil Se.., was composed by A. R. Rahman, written by Gulzar, and sung in duet with Sapna Awasthi. It was also featured in the musical Bombay Dreams and, in remixed arrangements, in the titles and credits segments of Spike Lee’s 2006 film Inside Man.

Sukhwinder Singh and Jonita Gandhi were roped in as singers to croon two different versions of the Brand Anthem for Zee Entertainment Enterprises, titled “Andekha, Ansuna, Anchua”, which were released under the conglomerate’s record label Zee Music Company and were composed by Singh’s frequent collaborator Vishal Bhardwaj, who provided a different music for both versions. While it was Gandhi’s rendition which made it to the Brand Film and has since been used frequently on most Zee channels, Singh’s version was later released separately, and pieces of this version are used in the branding of Zee Bollywood, and a film representation of Zee Cinema.
